His Perspective: Cage Reviews

If you’re interested in a long-term chastity dynamic, finding the right cage is crucial. You need something you can wear comfortably for extended periods of time. You need something that won’t continuously pinch or chafe. And if your partner is like mine, you need something that can be removed relatively quickly in the heat of the moment.

The exploration process can be expensive. It’s not the kind of product you buy secondhand (secondshaft?). I’m on my 4th cage in 4 years and still don’t think I found the perfect one.

I wrote quick reviews for each cage that I’ve worn. Maybe it’s helpful for people new-ish to chastity or people looking for their next cage.

(The reviews reflect my personal experience and the needs of our dynamic only)

Like many guys, this was my first cage. I think it’s the first one that comes up when you search “buy chastity cage.”

The CBX is a “starter” chastity cage for a reason. You can adjust the length by swapping in different-sized pins, which are easily replaced if lost or broken. It uses an actual padlock, which gives a satisfying “click” every time you close it. I think the visual and tactile experience of a padlock is fun for early chastity-wearers. My wife definitely liked it.

Another “beginner” element is the horseshoe-style ball ring. You don’t have to struggle to get your shaft and balls through a closed loop. This means it’s MUCH easier to take on and off.

The cage itself is nearly full coverage and plastic. If you’re uncircumcised like me, this means fewer pinch points and less chafing when my foreskin retracts while wearing the cage.

All of the elements that make the CBX a good starter cage make it a bad longterm cage, in my humble opinion. Here’s why:

  • The padlock. It’s clunky, makes noise, and is harder to diminish under clothing.

  • The pieces. There’s too many of them. It feels like a Lego set.

  • The hygiene factor. Plastic tends to smell more, especially without tons of ventilation. Imagine breathing against a cold window and seeing the condensation form. Now imagine it’s your dick breathing in a plastic tube.

Overall, the CBX is a great option for people who want to try chastity play for a few hours. Upgrade if you’re interested in multi-day or multi-week lockups.

I consider the Kink3D to be a “varsity” cage vs. CBX’s “junior varsity.” It’s designed for longer-term wear and requires a bit more thought.

Once purchased, there is no way to adjust the sizing. There are only 2 parts: the ring and the shaft. You need to take multiple dick measurements to find the right size.

No padlock here. It uses a cylinder lock incorporated into the design, which makes it much easier to hide under clothes. You don’t get that same satisfying “click” but you get better practicality.

The woven-style shaft design allows for better ventilation, but it creates more pinch points for an uncircumsized wearer. I’ve seen the Evo Blackout device and it seems promising, although I’d prefer a metal variant.

The biggest advantage of the Kink3D is weight. It’s ridiculously light and it’s possible to forget you’re wearing it. It’s also relatively easy to take off. My wife doesn’t really have a preference between a cylinder lock and a padlock. That being said, I do like a LITTLE bit of extra weight to remind me I’m wearing a cage. The Cobra doesn’t quite provide that same tactile experience. It’s tough to find that perfect balance.

I have found the resin / plastic cages to absorb and retain odor more than metal cages. Just make sure to clean regularly during longterm use.

My last point may be a paranoid one: micro-plastics. Plastic degrades into micro-plastic when exposed to heat. There are no studies on longterm plastic chastity cage wear. If there’s even a small chance I’m leeching cancerous micro-plastics into my testicles… I’ll stick with metal.

I’m admittedly not an expert and am willing to be educated if I’m totally off base.

Apart from the risk of penile cancer decades from now, the Kink3D is pretty great.

Ah, my first metal cage. I wish I had better things to say about it.

Initially, this thing is impressive. It looks and feels high-quality. If you like the “wearing a medieval torture device” vibe, you won’t be disappointed by aesthetics. You will never forget you’re wearing it.

I wanted the Bon4M for the hinge ring. Most other non-CBX cages have a closed loop ring, but this one has a clasp. My wife lets me out every few days and a closed loop ring is harder to remove when erect. Hypothetically, we could remove the whole cage faster. More on that in a bit.

Like the CBX, the Bon4M uses a padlock. It also uses a pin system. The main pin is what keeps the hinge ring closed AND how the ring attaches to the shaft. Once the pin is threaded through both pieces, you spin it a few times to screw it into the shaft piece. Technically, you don’t need the padlock to keep everything attached.

That brings me to the dealbreaker. There are two narrow pins welded to the shaft piece on either side of the primary pin. They slide into two small holes in the ring and prevent the shaft from shifting laterally. However, the whole process doesn’t work unless these two pins fit perfectly into the grooves. I have dainty white collar worker fingers and couldn’t do this reliably. I stabbed myself in the shaft skin SO MANY TIMES.

Not only is it hard to put on, it’s hard to take off… when you’re hard. The alignment (on my device at least) wasn’t perfect and an erection pushed the shaft piece away from the ring at an upward angle. In that slightly angled position, the pin wouldn’t unscrew. AT ALL. I had to push the shaft portion flush against the ring (painful) and then struggle to unscrew the pin while holding the shaft piece firmly in place.

Imagine trying to do that while sitting on your partner’s strap-on, fingers covered in lube, desperate to be free after a few weeks in chastity. There’s fun suffering, and suffering suffering.

Over time, the clasp-style ring (its main selling point for me) caused way too much pinching. Moral of this story: too many moving parts = bad.

For a dynamic like ours, I don’t recommend the Bon4M.

I’m wearing this cage now as I write. I’ve (mostly) comfortably worn this cage for 3 weeks at a time. I don’t currently have any other cages in rotation. I believe you can get a custom-fit cage from Oxy, but this is an “out of the box” size.

The Oxy Guardian is basically a metal version of the Kink3D. It’s heavy - too heavy to wear without a strap. I’ve had some minor pinching since the shaft and ring don’t fit perfectly together. The weight and pinch potential are mitigated by wearing more supportive underwear.

It uses a cylinder lock instead of a padlock. Sometimes, I still have to push the shaft down and towards the ring to get the lock out. However, it’s nowhere near as difficult as the Bon4M and definitely not a dealbreaker.

Anything other than a closed tip is going to create some foreskin pinching. But the hygiene benefits seem to outweigh some temporary and infrequent discomfort.

Overall, this cage has been the best balance of hygiene, weightiness, ease-of-use, and cancer-free ingredients.

Final Thoughts

Right now, I’ve got my eye on the Evotion Titanium. I like the idea of a custom fit and lighter metal. I’d order it tomorrow if it didn’t cost a month of Midwest rent. I can’t quite justify spending that much on something I don’t wear every day for the rest of my life.

My ideal cage has the following characteristics. If there is such a device, please let me know!

  • A cylinder lock

  • A tip that works well for uncircumcised guys

  • A horseshoe or hinge-type ring that doesn’t pinch

  • All pieces fit snugly together

  • Lightweight (with a bit of heft) and non-cancerous material (0% risk)

  • Works effortlessly with a support band

A dire warning against cheap non-metal knockoffs

Don’t do it. Please don’t do it.

I wore metal for a while and wanted to try resin again for a bit. I didn’t want to spring for a new Kink3D (for some reason I didn’t keep my original one). I ordered a much cheaper visually-identical model from Amazon and wore it for a few days.

I’ve never had a serious allergic reaction before. Medications, food, textiles, etc. This cage made my dick swell up like Will Smith’s face in the movie Hitch. The swelling was patterned like the cage. My dick looked like a sad sausage-shaped waffle.

It returned to normal after a week-ish of slathering Aquaphor anti-itch ointment.

Spend the extra money, friends.
